Verve Studios

A film production house whose website looked like everyone else's. We built one that behaves like the work it's showing.

The challenge

Verve's reel was extraordinary, and their site buried it behind a grid of thumbnails and a hamburger menu. The brand was a wordmark and nothing more — no type system, no motion language, nothing that survived contact with a title card.

Our approach

  1. Wrote the motion language first

Before a single page, we defined how things enter, hold, and leave — the same grammar Verve uses in an edit.

  2. Let the work be the interface

Full-bleed film, no thumbnails, no chrome. Navigation appears when you want it and gets out of the way when you don't.

  3. Kept it fast anyway

Adaptive streaming and poster-frame placeholders hold first paint at 1.1 seconds on 4G — because a slow film site is a broken film site.

The outcome

The site was shortlisted for Site of the Day within a month of launch, and Verve now pitches with the URL instead of a deck.
