Northwind Logistics

Fleet software drivers were quietly ignoring — and a dispatch team paying for it in phone calls. We rebuilt it for the cab, not the office.

The challenge

Northwind's tracking app was designed on a desktop for people holding a phone in a moving truck, in gloves, on one bar of signal. Drivers stopped updating jobs, so dispatch called them instead. Every stale status was a phone call.

Our approach

  1. Designed for the worst conditions

Large targets, high contrast, offline-first. Every action a driver takes queues locally and syncs when the signal returns.

  2. Cut the form to what dispatch reads

Eleven fields became four. The rest are captured from the vehicle or inferred from the route.

  3. Gave dispatch a live picture

One board showing every vehicle, every exception, and nothing else — so the phone only rings when something is actually wrong.

The outcome

Drivers update jobs because it takes eleven seconds. Dispatch stopped chasing them. Support ticket volume fell by a third in the first quarter.
